Why Do the "International Columns" March into China One After Another

Li Yalin @ 2007-11-22 12:55 DOIT Media Group

DoSTOR Nov22,2007--High-performance NAS Cluster supplier Isilon announced officially entered Chinese market in November. Although it is a little later than Panasas, but it's still a good time for Isilon to enter China.

Throughout 2007, we have seen so many international storage vendor enter Chinese market. The entry of Isilon is merely the tip of the iceberg. In fact, all the vendor can't ignore Chinese market's great potential.

Storage and server became separate since 2000 in China. Before then, storage and server were saled together. People of storage vendors once got a nickname "Disk guy". Until 2000, with the help of a famous storage provider who educated clients the importance of storage system, storage was separated from server successfully. From then on storage has been considered truely independent in the users' mind.

It was a little late indeed, but later is better than never. At that time 1T costed 1 million US dollars. Storage was so expensive that only a few companies could afford it, such as banks and telecommunications carriers.

But now storage is no longer a new or a mysterious industry that hard to enter. And as Seagate announced its 1TB hard drive technology, storage seems to became much more easier to get into.

Once it was said that China's network infrastructure is the most advanced across the world. I dare not to admit this or denied categorically, but it seems to be true in the storage infrastructure. China's enterprise storage architecture just like a blank paper on which you could draw anything you want, while US' or European's were full of painting. In US and European ,clients have got storage equipment already.

They should protect their initial investment. When they are balancing between the new technology's benefits and the costs, while in China, clients are purchasing the latest products and benefit from new technologies since they had no initial investment.
