UIT entering North Sea Industrial Park signing ceremony was held on February 27. Chen Kai, UIT chairman and co-founder said China storage vendors especially UIT have passed the phases of OEM and low-end system development. According to Chen Kai, started from IP storage system, UIT storage solution covers a series of systems including NAS, FC SAN, cloud storage software and so on". UIT is moving towards a new phase of being more independent with comprehensive products and solutions.

"It was in 2007 that UIT started to apply for patents in China while applying for patents in U.S. in 2008. We will obtain patent license after March 2009 in succession." Chen Kai said. He pointed out that North America sales accounts for almost 10 percent of UIT total sales and UIT products are gradually "taking place of some of the U.S. small and medium-sized storage vendors’ products". In Chen’s point of view such development speed is fast.

In addition to UIT, SOUL is another significant example of China storage vendor’s transformation. One of its senior executive who had been working for the largest storage software vendor said not long ago at an internal communication that SOUL had found a key technological breakthrough and obtained its core intellectual property and proprietary technology which will be used in its new VTL products. For details of this technology, as DoSTOR known, it would be " 'data similarity algorithms' technology that different from the traditional hash-based de-duplication technology". The senior said SOUL is taking a "hardware-based, Storage On Chip road."

In terms of software, we heard some new words from Eisoo Software Inc. last year such as "storage and backup software", " Eisoo applications storage" and " Eisoo storage cabinet ". These new products and technologies, in particular the emergence of software technology, made China independent innovation of storage market more prosperous. 

In addition to storage manufactures, several universities and scientific R&D institutions including the National Defense University, Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics   are gradually moving towards testing and R&D phases. The National Defense University professor and China Computer Federation storage technology committee director commissary Dr. Fang Liang told us that China Computer Federation storage technology committee and its partners had made a breakthrough in "Mass Storage" and would go further more on storage technology R & D.
